The City of Motovun history begins before Roman times, when the Celtic tribe raised their village. It is a perfect place to relax during your creative holiday, enjoying stunning views and excellent cuisine.
It consists of three parts. At the very top is the oldest part, beneath it is the”Podgrade” – a newer part and the “Gradiciol “descends down the slope. The town has predominantly preserved its medieval appearance.
Central square is named after Andrea Antico, the composer of the Renaissance and the printer of notes, who was born in Motovun in the second half of the 15th century. On the square is the baroque church of Sv. Stephen, built in 1614th at the exact location of the old church. Next to the church is a belfry-tower of the 13th century, with serrated parapet, built on the foundation of previous church.
Motovun restaurants offer excellent wines and delicious meals with some of the best white and black truffles as described in the Financial Times article Croatia: truffles so good people think they come from Italy.
From January 2007 Motovun is on the UNESCO tentitive list for the World Heritage Sites.
Motovun is known for its Film Festival during July / August.
